The 1-Hour Weekly Reset: Pantry + Fridge + Freezer

By Rossi Voss | September 22, 2025

You’re not alone if you’ve ever opened your fridge, stared into the void, and then Googled:

  • “food near me”
  • “what should I eat?”
  • “easy meals near me”

The real problem isn’t hunger. It’s **clutter**.

If you can’t see what you have, you can’t cook with it.

That’s why I teach my students the 1-Hour Weekly Reset — a simple, repeatable system to organize your **pantry, fridge, and freezer** every Sunday.

Just 60 minutes. No stress. No overwhelm.

⏰ The 1-Hour Schedule

  • 20 mins: Pantry Reset
  • 20 mins: Fridge Reset
  • 20 mins: Freezer Reset

Set a timer. Work fast. Finish strong.

🗄️ Step 1: Pantry Reset (20 mins)

  1. Empty everything onto the counter.
  2. Sort into 3 piles:
    • Keep: Staples you use weekly (rice, beans, spices)
    • 🗑️ Toss: Expired, stale, or mystery jars
    • 🎁 Donate: Unopened extras (soup kitchens love canned goods)
  3. Restock 10 core staples:
    • Dried lentils, black beans, rice, oats, canned tomatoes, broth, coconut milk, spices, olive oil, frozen veggies
  4. Organize: Group by type. Tape a checklist to the door: “Always Have These 10 Things”.

🧊 Step 2: Fridge Reset (20 mins)

  1. Remove all containers. Wipe shelves.
  2. Sort into 3 piles:
    • Keep: Meals you’ll eat this week
    • 🗑️ Toss: Moldy, expired, or mystery leftovers
    • 🔄 Repurpose: Turn turkey into soup, lentils into tacos
  3. Organize for visibility:
    • Top Shelf: Ready-to-eat meals (soups, egg muffins)
    • Middle Shelf: Prepped ingredients (chopped veggies, cooked beans)
    • Door: Sauces (shawarma, yogurt, hot sauce)

📌 Pro Tip: Use glass containers so you can see what’s inside.

❄️ Step 3: Freezer Reset (20 mins)

  1. Take everything out. Check dates.
  2. Label and rotate: Use the “First In, First Out” rule.
  3. Add new batch-cooked meals:
    • Lentil stew
    • Turkey & Rice Soup
    • Black Bean Enchilada Bake
    • Egg Muffins
  4. Stack neatly: Group by meal type. Label: “Use within 3 months”.
